02/13/2019 (Australia) - The electrical distribution company Ausgrid reports on Wednesday, 13 February, that a major power outage across Sydney's upper north shore has been reported following an earlier fire at a Hornsby substation. The supply was interrupted around midday across parts of Hornsby, Waitara, Asquith, Hornsby Heights, Wahroonga, Galston, Mount Colah and Normanhurst, according to Ausgrid. The outage has disrupted activities in the area's schools and has caused shops and businesses to close. There is no estimated restorations time as of yet. Further information is awaited.

Members in the affected areas should review business and travel contingency plans in light of the outages and monitor local media for updates on the situation and the latest information on the restoration of power. Travellers should be mindful of an increased risk of opportunistic crime in the city amid the outages.
