02/13/2019 (Brazil) - The national meteorological agency in Brazil, the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (INMET), has issued a severe weather warning alert for the State of Rio de Janeiro for Wednesday, 13 February through till Saturday, 16 February. INMET forecast that from dawn on Wednesday an approaching cold front and low pressure will lead to heavy rainfall, lightning and wind gust of over 80km/h (50mph) in some areas of the state. The initial brunt of the storm conditions will be felt on the south coast, before spreading through much of the state. The inclement conditions are forecast to remain in the Rio area till Saturday. The approaching storm comes after six people were killed in floods in Rio de Janeiro during storms which occurred in the region last week.

Members in affected areas are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood-affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding and debris.
