02/13/2019 (Venezuela) - According to aviation news sources on Wednesday, 13 February, the US certified all-cargo carrier, 21 Air, has ceased operations following the Maduro government's claim of it carrying 'irregular' shipments into the country from the United States. Although unconfirmed, the government claims that customs agents retrieved various assault-type weapons and ammunition in crates upon landing at the Valencia Arturo Michelena International Airport (VLN). In a statement from the company, they said that the flight was a charter for an indirect air carrier which also has a US Transportation Security Administration-approved security program and had full control of all cargo on board. Due to the disagreement on what cargo was actually on board the aircraft, the company has taken the decision to discontinue all flights into Venezuela until the situation has been clarified to ensure safety and security of its crews and assets.
Members in-country are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on supply-chain shortages. Travellers are advised to review contingency measures in order to minimise the impact on business continuity. Due to the ongoing civil unrest, members are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela.
