02/13/2019 (Australia) - According to aviation news sources on Wednesday, 13 February, ongoing flooding in Queensland is disrupting the rail delivery of zinc and lead exports to the northern port of Townsville. The line is expected to be out of service for at least a month. The 1,000 km (620 mile) rail line is used by mining companies to transport zinc and lead concentrate from the Mt Isa region. The Townsville port ships about 40 per cent of Australia's zinc production, or the equivalent of about 5 per cent of the global supply.
