02/13/2019 (South Africa) - South African public utility company Eskom announced that rolling power cuts would continue for a fourth consecutive day on Wednesday, 13 February as it continues with stage three shedding between 0800hrs and 2300hrs (0600 and 2100 UTC). Eskom have said that a number of generating units are still out of service due to breakdowns and the load shedding needs to occur to prevent the collapse of the national grid. The previous days blackouts have seen business forced to close and traffic congestion due to a lack of signals. Eskom has also expressed concern that its operations may be affected by the Congress of South African Trade Unions' (COSATU) planned national strike action beginning on Wednesday if its workers join in the strike.

Members in South Africa should review business and travel contingency plans in light of the outages and monitor local media for updates on the situation and latest information on the load shedding schedule. Travellers should be mindful of an increased risk of opportunistic crime amid the outages.
