02/13/2019 (Kyrgyz Republic) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 13 February, a man in his late twenties was arrested by the local security services for fighting as a part of an international terrorist group against government forces in Syria. Reports indicate that the young man relocated his entire family to Syria during his training and participation in militant activities. The terrorist organisation which the suspect belonged to has not been mentioned by the authorities or the local media but is likely to be the Islamic State as many Kyrgyz nationals are counted amongst its fighters. This is the third such arrest this month.

Those in Kyrgyzstan should report any suspicious person or activity to the authorities and monitor local media sources for further information.
