Ongoing Student Protests Cause Traffic Disruption in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga Province

02/12/2019 (South Africa) - According to social media feeds on Tuesday, 12 February, dozens of students of the Tshwane University of Technology are taking part in demonstrations in the municipality of Emalahleni in Mpumalanga Province. Imagery indicates that students have blocked a road using burning tyres to set up makeshift roadblocks. Riot police have also arrived at the scene but have thus far not attempted to disperse the protesters. There have not been any reports of violence at the demonstration.

Those in Mpumalanga province should avoid the vicinity of the demonstration and anticipate traffic disruption in the area of Emalahleni. Members should monitor local media sources for further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
