02/12/2019 (Papua New Guinea) - According to regional media sources, over thirty disgruntled soldiers blockaded the office of the government's chief secretary in Port Moresby on Monday, 11 February to demand outstanding allowances for work at the APEC Leaders summit in November 2018. Defence force commanders visited the protesting soldiers to try and ease the tensions and police said eventually the situation was defused and the soldiers were convinced to return to their barracks. Senior commanders have said that the soldiers will be reprimanded for going above the chain of command. In November, dozens of police and corrections officers stormed parliament to demand payment for their work during the summit.

Members in Port Moresby are advised to monitor local media sources for information on any further protests regarding the issue. Members are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Papua New Guinea due to the risk of exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime and police crowd dispersal operations.
