02/12/2019 (Nigeria) - According to local media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, local residents have threatened to hold demonstrations outside the Funiwa 5 Well Chevron facilities in the area of Koluama in Bayelsa State. The call to action comes following dissatisfaction of local interest groups in the handling of a gas wellhead explosion in Koluama in 2012 which the residents blame for contaminating the environment and damaging their livelihoods. Local residents have thus far failed to receive permission from authorities to hold a demonstration. It is not yet clear when the action will take place or how many people will be present.

Those in Koluama should avoid the vicinity of any political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Members should monitor local media sources for further information.
