US State Department Issues Demonstration Alert Ahead of Planned Protests Within Cusco

02/12/2019 (Peru) - According to a US State Department travel advisory on Monday, 12 February, demonstrations are expected throughout Cusco beginning at 1200hrs (1700 UTC). The protests are expected to take place in three separate locations within the city: Tika Tika, Penal Qenqoro and Tupac Amaru Plaza. The nature of the protests is unknown at this time. Further information is awaited.
Members in Cusco should avoid the vicinity of all protests and large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and police operations. Personnel should monitor local media sources for further information on future protests and associated transport disruption.
