02/12/2019 (Congo (Kinshasa)) - According to local media sources on Monday, 11 February, a soldier of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) was killed in an attack by unknown gunmen which occurred in the settlement of Bashu near Beni in North Kivu province. The incident occurred along the Kithakandi-Butungera road. A FARDC checkpoint was also set alight the same night in the area of Kitharagha. Local security services are conducting operations in the area. Further reports suggest that four militants have been killed and several firearms confiscated in the area of Mamove near Beni following FARDC operations.

Due to the escalating violence within parts of North Kivu province, all non-essential travel to the region should be reconsidered. Members in the eastern provinces of the DRC are advised to monitor local media sources and liaise with in-country contacts to remain apprised of security-related developments in their particular area of operations.
