Suspected Militants Captured Following Security Operations near Bosaso, Puntland

02/12/2019 (Somalia) - According to social media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, members of the Puntland security forces apprehended several people who they believe were planning to join Islamic State militants in the mountainous area near the city of Bosaso. Local forces have seized weapons and supplies which were being transferred to the militants. Further operations are likely to occur.
Travellers should be aware that Somalia is considered an extreme risk operational environment and, as such, all travel should be undertaken with the strictest possible journey management protocols in place. Members should ensure that personnel and site security measures are continuously reviewed so as to remain commensurate with the prevailing local threat environment. All movement outside of secure compounds should be conducted with a reputable security provider and in coordination with security forces in order to avoid areas with high levels of militant activity or active security operations.
