Abu Sayyaf Member Arrested in Connection with Kidapawan City Bomb Attack in Manila

02/12/2019 (Philippines) - According to local media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, Philippine authorities have arrested a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Manila who was involved in the 2012 Kidapawan City bomb attack and a kidnapping incident in Basilan Island in 2001. The individual was apprehended in his home early in the morning of Sunday, 10 February. The National Capital Region Police Officer Director said that the individual was arrested when another Abu Sayyaf terror suspect revealed his whereabouts to police.

Members in the area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident due to possible ongoing security operations. Travellers are further advised to conduct all travel in the southern regions of the Philippines with comprehensive security risk management procedures in place following a thorough localised threat assessment.
