Ongoing Operations Following World War 2 Era Bomb Discovery in Holten

02/12/2019 (Germany) - According to the social media account of the local emergency services on Tuesday, 12 February, a World War Two era bomb was discovered during construction work at the Oberhausen-Holten railway station. Local emergency operations are ongoing to evacuate the area prior to the detonation of the device which will commence today. A 250 metre (820ft) radius evacuation zone has been established with approximately 500 people being evacuated. Emmericher Strasse, Sternstrasse, Sternplatz, Ferdinandstrasse, Weseler Strasse , Oranienstrasse, Lütticher Strasse and Schmachtendorfer Strasse have all been closed off. Railway operations through the Oberhausen-Holten railway station have also been suspended.

Those in Holten and Oberhausen should heed any directives issued by the authorities including evacuation orders and should monitor local media sources for further information. Members should anticipate traffic and railway services disruption and amend their itineraries if necessary.
