02/12/2019 (Nigeria) - According to local media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, at least five people have been killed in Delta State clashes between supporters of the two main political parties. The violence comes just days before a general election and the victims in the incident were all members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and were shot and killed on Sunday in an apartment in Effurun, according to a Delta state spokesperson. It is believed that the shootings were largely a revenge attack by the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP). Nigeria is scheduled to hold presidential and legislative elections on Saturday, 16 February.

Members with operationally critical requirements in Delta State should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
