02/12/2019 (Zambia) - According to social media feeds on Tuesday, 12 February, members of the Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) have clashed during by-election voting in the city of Sesheke. Imagery spread on social media suggests that several people have been injured. This follows a series of violent incidents prior to the vote. The results of the vote will be announced tomorrow. Further unrest and violence is likely.
Members in Sesheke should avoid the vicinity of any large political gathering in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
