02/12/2019 (Thailand) - According to local media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, the Pollution Control Department has reported reached high levels of fine dust, or what it classes as particulate matter of 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter (PM2.5), in the northern province of Lampang. PM2.5 levels in some areas of the province have reached 104-134 micrograms per cubic metre of air (mcg) over the past 24 hours, partly due to forest fires in the region. This is more than twice the safe threshold in Thailand, set at 50mcg. The most affected areas were in Muang and Mae Mo districts, where a number of areas are in the unhealthy red zone of over 100mcg.

Members are advised to reduce outdoor activities and consider the use of face masks. Those with respiratory conditions should be especially careful and avoid areas with high dust levels. Monitor local media reports for further updates.
