Multiple Casualties as Border Guards Fire Upon Villagers in Thakurgaon, Rangpur Division

02/12/2019 (Bangladesh) - According to local media sources on Tuesday, 12 February, at least three people were shot and killed and a further five injured by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members when they opened fire on villagers in Thakuragaon. Reportedly, up to ten individuals were attempting to smuggle in cows from India when they were intercepted by BGB members. When approached, an altercation ensued and the smugglers were shot. The injured have been taken to local hospitals.

Members in the near the border region are advised to remain extremely vigilant amid the heightened tensions and ongoing unrest, immediately reporting any suspicious activity to authorities. Members in the affected areas are to minimise time spent near the border due to the threat of exposure to cross-border attacks.
