02/12/2019 (Bahrain) - According to social media channels and online publications of local civil society groups, events will be held across Bahrain to commemorate the anniversary of the 14 February protests in 2011 also known as the Day of Rage. Demonstrations, as well as marches with musical instruments, will start in the evening of Wednesday, 13 February and likely continue for several days. According to a statement released by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), political activists have called for roadblocks, closing of businesses and general unrest to last until Saturday, 16 February. It has been announced that protests will be held in the neighbourhoods of Sanabis and Karranah east of Manama. Despite only these two locations being publicised thus far, protests will likely be more widespread. Unconfirmed reports suggest that as many as eight individuals have been arrested by the security forces prior to the scheduled unrest. Increased operations by security forces in Manama and the surrounding areas are likely.
Those in Bahrain should avoid the vicinity of any political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and police operations. Members should monitor local media sources for further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
