10/22/2018 (Thailand) - According to the Thai national weather agency on Sunday 21 October, an area of low pressure created following a storm over the Gulf of Martaban will bring heavy rain to 19 provinces in the northern, central and southern regions and some areas could be hit by surging runoff and flash floods. Most part of Bangkok will see thunderstorms and rain through Tuesday, 23 October. According to the Meteorological Department, the rain-affected provinces in the north will be Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet and Tak. Central provinces affected will be Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon. The southern provinces are Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ranong. Rain has already affected many provinces since Saturday, 20 October and slippery road conditions are thought to have been the cause of two fatal accidents in Kamphaeng Phet and Khon Kaen. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has warned officials in the affected provinces to prepare for flooding and other consequences of severe weather.

Members in Thailand, especially in the provinces mentioned above, should monitor local media and weather sources in order to maintain situational awareness. Any directives issued by local authorities should be strictly adhered to, including evacuation orders. Minimise time spent in low-lying flood-prone areas and unstable slopes susceptible to landslides. Do not touch electrical equipment if it is wet or if you are standing in water. Motorists should exercise extreme caution due to likely hazardous driving conditions caused by surface water, debris and landslides.
