10/22/2018 (Bangladesh) - According to local media reports on Monday, 22 October, at least 15 people have been injured following clashes between ready-made garment workers (RDG) and police. The violence occurred after the RDG protesters blocked a road in Narayanganj for over five hours, demanding payments owed to them in arrears. The police responded by firing tear gas into the crowds of workers. This, however, only further agitated the protesters leading to them setting fire to a lorry and damaging several other vehicles. The workers left the road after promises of receiving payments by November 15, however, further disputes cannot be ruled out.

Members in Bangladesh should avoid the vicinity of any demonstrations or large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and police operations. Members should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
