10/22/2018 (Luxembourg) - The national railway company Societe National des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) has released a press release on Monday morning, 22 October in which it stated significant delays to rail traffic may be experienced in the short term after Luxembourg Central Station was evacuated after a large fire. Emergency services responded to the incident at around 0900hrs (0700 UTC) after the fire broke out near the station square and the N3 highway. According to the press release, smoke was seen coming from one of the offices within the station. The station hall was evacuated and rail traffic on track 3 was temporarily interrupted and access to the southern tunnel blocked. Nobody was reportedly hurt in the incident and no passengers were put in danger. Although the situation at the station has now reportedly returned to normal, knock on delays are expected to continue to affect rail services in the area in the short term.

Members conducting rail travel in Luxembourg are advised to monitor CFL's social media and website to ascertain if their particular journey is going to be affected by delays and if alternative transport methods may need to be sought. Road travel in the area around the station may be disrupted due to the response operation and investigation into the fire.
