Power Outages Due to Turbine Maintenance in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire until 5 December

10/22/2018 (Congo (Brazzaville)) - According to local media reports, Congo's two main cities, Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire will experience power cuts from Sunday, 21 October until Wednesday, 5 December as maintenance takes place on turbines at the country's main power plant in Pointe-Noire, which provides 60 percent of energy provided to consumers. A statement a statement the General Directorate of the Company Electric Power (ECC), the consequence of the maintenance work will be that the national grid will be disrupted and they will no longer be able to guarantee electricity distribution to all its customers and that electricity will be provided on a rotational basis.

Members in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire are advised to monitor local media outlets for updates on the outages and any changes to the duration of the work being carried out. Members should review business and travel contingency plans in light of the outages and be mindful of an increased risk of opportunistic crime during outages.
