10/21/2018 (Jordan) - According to regional media sources, scores of protesters gathered in Amman on Saturday, 20 October to call for constitutional reform and the establishment of a parliamentary democracy. Members of the pro-reform coalition the 'National Follow-Up Committee' were demanding King Abdullah II enact reform and reduce his own personal powers. One of the key demands was that the King rescinds the constitutional amendments he implemented in 2016, which greatly increased his powers. The coalition, formed of military veterans, leftist groups and Islamists, also protested against corruption and the government's economic policies. Organisers say that over 400 people attended the demonstration, although this has not been confirmed. There are no confirmed reports of any clashes or injuries during the protest.

Members in Amman are advised to avoid the vicinity of any demonstrations or political gatherings in order to minimise the risk of exposure to incidental violence and other crowd-related disturbances. Monitor local media sources for information on any further protests that may occur.
