Fatality and Injuries after Fire Breaks out at Factory in Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia-Alania

10/21/2018 (Russia) - According to local media reports, at least one person, believed to be a firefighter, is reported to have died and three others injured after a fire broke out at a metallurgy plant in Vladikavkaz, the capital of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, in the early hours of Sunday, 21 October. Emergency services reported that 50 people and 18 fire engines were engaged in the firefighting operations at the factory belonging to the manufacturer Electrozinc, which erupted at around 0316hrs (0016 UTC). Emergency services have reportedly been able to bring the fire under control. It has not been confirmed how the fire was started.

Members in Vladikavkaz are advised to avoid the vicinity of the incident until the response operation has ceased as localised traffic disruption is likely in the area. Members in the immediate vicinity are advised to keep all doors and windows closed to minimise the risk of smoke inhalation and should follow any directives issued by local authorities.
