Search and Rescue Underway for People in the Water after Red Funnel Ferry Runs Aground off East Cowes, Isle of Wight

10/21/2018 (United Kingdom) - According to emerging reports in local and social media, the Red Funnel ferry has run aground off the shore of East Cows on the Sile of Wight on Sunday morning, 21 October. The vessel reportedly came to a stop just 50m (164ft) off the shore, and a search and rescue operation is underway in the area amid reports cries for help from people in the water have been heard. A yacht has been found in a sunken state, although this has been not been confirmed as to whether a collision occurred, causing the incident. Further information on the incident is awaited.

Members in the area are advised to avoid the vicinity of the quay and East Cowes Esplanade as response operations are launched and emergency services arrive on the scene. Members with ferry travel booked from East Cowes should anticipate delays in the short term while the incident is being dealt with.
