10/21/2018 (Qatar) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 21 October, widespread heavy flooding is in effect across Doha after the city received more than its average annual rainfall over the day and night of Saturday, 20 October. Doha usually receives on average, 59.8mm (2.3inches) of rainfall a year and according to Qatar's Meteorological Journal, over the course of Saturday 20 October day and night, it received 61mm (2.4inches). As a consequence, roads, businesses, universities and even embassies have closed until the water subsides. According to meteorological sites, adverse weather is set to continue through Sunday 21 October and into Monday 22, with thunderstorms and rain and forecast. However, from Tuesday 23, the weather is set to return to normality. There are also early reports of air travel disruption for arrivals and departures into the city. While Qatar Airways flights have been singled out as the most heavily affected, other airlines are also facing disruption due to the adverse weather.

Members should monitor local media outlets for weather and travel-related updates, and plan any journey in advance to minimise traffic disruption and exposure to wind and rain-related impacts. Heed any directives given by the authorities. Those wishing to fly into Doha in the short term, should contact their respective air carrier in order to ascertain if their flight has been affected and amend their itineraries if necessary.
