10/21/2018 (Brazil) - Supporters of presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro of the Social Liberal party are planning to hold rallies in numerous urban centres across Brazil on Sunday, 21 October. The rallies supporting Bolsonaro are in response to a series of anti-Bolsonaro demonstrations held in several cities on Saturday, 20 October. An increased security presence is expected in the vicinity of the rallies as clashes between demonstrators and police, and between pro- and anti-Bolsonaro activists cannot be ruled out. Right-wing candidate Bolsonaro has secured a plurality of votes in the first round of the presidential elections, but fell just short of an overall majority. Bolsonaro secured 46.93% of the votes, with runner-up Fernando Haddad taking 28%. The two will now go up against one another in a runoff election set to be held on Sunday, 28 October.

Members in Brazil are advised to avoid all political gatherings and demonstrations and should monitor local media outlets for the latest information on election-related events in their particular area of operations. Members conducting overland travel should review itineraries to ensure they will not face disruption along their routes associated with political demonstrations and rallies.
