Ministry of Interior Declares State of Emergency in Oaxaca State

10/20/2018 (Mexico) - The Ministry of the Interior has issued an Emergency Declaration for 15 municipalities in Oaxaca State affected by severe rains that occurred over the past few days which caused mudslides and landslides that killed eight people. The emergency declaration has been issued at the request of the state government, through the National Coordination of Civil Protection (NCCP). The agency declared the emergency for the municipalities of the Canada and Sierra Juarez regions. The municipalities affected are San Bartolome Ayautla, San Francisco Chapulapa, San Andres Teotilalpam, San Juan Cotzocon, San Pedro Teutila and Santa Ana Cuauhtemoc.

Members in the aforementioned states are advised to monitor local media for the latest weather-related updates and for any public advisories. All directives issued by authorities should be adhered to, including evacuation. Motorists should exercise extra caution due to likely hazardous driving conditions caused by surface water, debris and landslides.
