10/20/2018 (Mexico) - According to meteorological specialists on Saturday, 20 October, Tropical Storm Vincente, which is currently sitting off the Guatemala/Mexico border in the Pacific Ocean, is expected to strengthen within the next few days. The tropical storm is predicted to track Northwestwards over the weekend, parallel along the Mexican South and Southwestern coasts, with the outer fringes of the storm making landfall in Mexicos South by Sunday, 21 October. By Monday, 22 October, and through to Tuesday, 23 October, Vincente will edge further into Mexico, with the eye of the storm expecting to briefly pass over the top of Colma state. There will be an increased chance of heavy downpours as the storm is present, flash flooding and subsequent landslide are also possible. Further, strong winds will see an increase in swell and wave height, so some vessels may be forced to remain in port until the storm passes. By Wednesday, 24 October, Vincente is expected to reach max wind speeds of 85mph (137km/h) off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, bringing up to 10 inches (254mm) in rain. Swell off the coast of Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta could reach up to 19ft (6m). Meteorologists have currently rated Vincente as a tropical storm, however, they have noted, if the storm continues to track Westwards and remains away from land, it has the potential to strengthen to a Hurricane.

Members should anticipate potential travel-related disruption and risks arising from heavy rains and possible flash floods. Monitor local news for updates on the situation and plan accordingly. Maintain extra vigilance when travelling on roads and heed any directives given by the authorities.
