10/20/2018 (Cameroon) - According to reports in local media, the Constitutional Council is set to proclaim the results of the 7 October Presidential election on Monday, 22 October, after it completed three days of hearings on petitions filed by opposition candidates for the cancellation of the election on Friday, 19 October. Three opposition parties had filed petitions claiming corruption and vote-rigging by incumbent President Biya and his party, who, if there is no change to the figures compiled by the National Commission for the Census of Votes, won the election by gaining around 71% of the vote. The proclamation of the results will begin at 1100hrs (1000 UTC) at the Conference Centre in Yaoundé and opposition protests are likely to accompany the announcements in the capital and other major urban centres. Opposition party the Social Democratic Front (SDF) have also organised a demonstration in Douala on Sunday, 21 October.

Members across Cameroon should maintain an increased level of vigilance and are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large political gatherings or demonstrations in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Members should monitor local media sources for further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
