10/20/2018 (Moldova) - The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) is planning to hold a large rally in Chisinau on Sunday, 21 October. The rally will be held at the Great National Assembly Square, with PDM supporters gathering from 1100hrs (0800 UTC). Participants will reportedly be bused in from other parts of the country throughout the day and PDM leaders have stated that around 50,000 people are expected to attend the rally. The rally is being held to present the party's principles and political manifesto for the coming years. Some areas of the city will be closed to vehicular traffic to accommodate the crowds and congestion is anticipated on roads into and out of the city. There is also expected to be an increased police presence and other security measures in place near the square.
Members in Chisinau are advised to avoid the area of the rally in order to minimise the risk of exposure to crowd-related disturbances and incidental violence. Members conducting overland travel should anticipate traffic disruption due to road closures in the vicinity of the Great National Assembly Square and congestion on routes in and out of Chisinau, and routes and journey times may need to be altered accordingly. Monitor local media for further information on the rally and any associated disruption.
