10/20/2018 (Brazil) - Second-round gubernatorial elections are due to be held in the states of Amapa, Amazona, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondonia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Sao Paulo and Brasilia on Sunday, 28 October. In the run-up to polling day, political demonstrations, campaign rallies and other electoral-related events are expected to take place in the aforementioned states. On polling day itself, a heightened security presence and localised traffic disruption may be seen around polling stations. Controversial right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro secured a plurality in the first round of voting but fell short of an overall majority, during a campaign which has been marred by acrimony and violence.

Members in the states mentioned above are advised to avoid all political gatherings and demonstrations and should monitor local media outlets for the latest information on election-related events in their particular area of operations. Members conducting overland travel should review itineraries to ensure they will not face disruption along their routes associated with election-related events
