10/19/2018 (Armenia) - According to local media reports on Friday, 19 October, the primary round of elections to decide Armenia's new parliament has been scheduled for Wednesday, 24 October. The early elections come following Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's decision to resign from the position as of December and subsequently, dissolve Armenia's Parliament. While there is currently little to suggest the electoral process will face any issues, historical trends show mass protests cannot be ruled out. When Nikol Pashinyan took power on 8 May 2018, he did so amidst large protests against the former leadership, a movement that was dubbed the 'velvet revolution'.

Those in Yerevan and other major urban centres should avoid the vicinity of any demonstrations and political gatherings, in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and heavy-handed police response. Travellers should monitor local media sources for updates on future protests.
