10/19/2018 (Italy) - According to media reports on Friday, 19 October, several activist groups have scheduled a protest to demonstrate against what they refer to as Rome's deteriorating living conditions. The protesters will gather for a sit-in demonstration on Saturday, 27 October at 1030Hrs (0830UTC) at the Piazza del Campidoglio, on one of the Seven Hills of Rome. The demonstrations come as residents of Rome become increasingly frustrated with the management of the city. Rats, wild boar and traffic congestion are the main points of contention, however, demonstrators will be campaigning against the overall Five Star Movement administration, who have been in charge of the city since June 2016. Over 15,000 people have responded as 'attending' on the official demonstration group on Facebook, so disruption is expected.
Members in Rome are advised to avoid the aforementioned area at the time of the protests in order to minimise the risk of exposure to incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed security forces' crowd dispersal measures. Overland travel in the areas around the protests may face disruption. Monitor local media sources for further developments regarding the protest.
