10/19/2018 (Taiwan) - Taiwanese independence campaigners, under the Formosa Alliance umbrella, will take to the streets on Saturday, 20 October to call for a public vote on Taiwan's formal independence from China. Organisers of the event say they aim to draw 100,000 people to the rally outside the Presidential Office Building. Traffic disruption is expected in the surrounding area, particularly on Ketagalan Boulevard. An increased security force presence can also be expected on the day. Most gatherings in Taipei pass off peacefully, but clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.

Members in Taipei are advised to avoid the vicinity of the rally in order to minimise the risk of exposure to crowd-related disturbances and incidental violence. Members planning overland travel in Taipei on the day are advised to review journey routes to ensure that they will not face disruption due to the rally, as increased traffic congestion is anticipated in downtown Taipei. Monitor local media outlets for the latest information on the rally and adhere to any directives issued by local authorities.
