Family Members Plan to Demonstrate Again in Galatasaray Square on 20 October

10/19/2018 (Turkey) - The Saturday Mothers group are planning to hold another demonstration in Galatasaray Square in Istanbul's Beyoglu district on Saturday, 20 October. Members of the group plan to gather at 1200hrs (0900 UTC). The group holds weekly demonstrations to memorialise family members who disappeared while in government custody. At last Saturday's gathering, 13 October, security forces closed roads in the vicinity of the square to prevent supporters from gathering. Similar measures are likely on 20 October.
Members in Istanbul are advised to avoid the vicinity of the protest in order to minimise the risk of exposure to crowd-related disturbances and incidental violence. Members conducting overland travel in Istanbul should review journey routes to ensure they are not disrupted by the protests due to possible road closures around the square.
