10/18/2018 (Greece) - According to local media reports, metro workers in Athens are planning a limited strike on Friday, 19 October, in protest against shortages in personnel as well as maintenance for metro wagons and stations. The industrial action will take the form of work stoppages, where workers will refuse to work certain hours of the day. Due to the strike action, Metro Line 3, which links Athens International Airport (ATH) to the centre of Athens, will only operate between 0900hrs (0600 UTC) and 2300hrs (2000 UTC). The industrial action will also affect other main routes, including Metro Line 2, between Anthoupoli and Elliniko. Metro Line 1 will operate as normal. The workers warn that the work stoppages on Friday are only a warning action, thus implying that further industrial actions are likely.

Members in Athens during the strike are advised to revise journey plans accordingly in order to minimise disruption and impact on business continuity. Clients should also be aware of a surge in demand for alternative means of transport during the industrial actions. Travellers are further advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of any associated protests or demonstrations due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and opportunistic crime.
