10/18/2018 (Philippines) - An Australian tourist has been killed in a shooting carried out by unidentified assailants in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. The incident, which has only recently been reported, occurred early on Monday, 15 October outside a house the man was renting. The victim had reportedly been involved in a dispute with a local official, though no motive for the incident has yet been confirmed.

Members are advised to exercise a heightened level of situational awareness, particularly in higher crime areas such as transport hubs, public squares and parks, tourist sites, and nightlife areas. Travellers should seek to maintain a low-profile and avoid displays of relative wealth, particularly electronic devices. Any crimes or suspicious activity should be immediately reported to police.
