Ongoing Grass Fire near Gas Pipeline Prompts Evacuations, Disrupts Rail Service in Bay Point, California

10/18/2018 (United States) - Contra Costa County Fire Department as of 2200hrs (0500 UTC) on Thursday, 18 October, is currently on the scene to contain a grass fire that is currently threatening an underground gas pipeline at a Chevron refinery in Bay Point, in the vicinity of Poinsettia and Suisun Avenues. At around 2300hrs (0600 UTC), evacuations were ordered for anyone within half a mile of the site, according to Contra Costa Fire Department. Pittsburg police and the Contra Costa County Sheriff helped to carry out evacuations. An evacuation centre is set up at Calvary Church, Evora Road and the Bay Point Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station.

Members in the affected region wishing to conduct overland travel near the incident should anticipate travel disruptions due to ongoing operations by the emergency services. Travellers are advised to monitor local media sources for further information on the incident and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
