10/18/2018 (Guinea) - Members of the Guinean political opposition announced that a protest march initially scheduled to take place in the capital Conakry on Thursday, 18 October, has been postponed to Tuesday, 23 October. The march will take place along the N1 (Fidel Castro) highway from the Tannerie roundabout to the Stade du 28 Septembre (stadium). The announcement comes after a protester was killed during a ville morte protest in Conakry on 16 October. A funeral march is expected to take place on 19 October, from the Ignace Deen hospital to the Martyrs' cemetery in the Bambeto neighbourhood of the capital. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected around the 23 October march route. Similar protests are possible in Conakry and other urban areas in the near-term.

Members are advised to closely follow local media outlets for updates on this event and any further protests planned over this issue. All political gatherings should be avoided due to the risk of incidental violence, opportunistic crime and heavy-handed security response.
