10/17/2018 (Yemen) - According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) on Wednesday, 17 October, there have been three fatalities and a further 33 people injured in the aftermath of Cyclone Luban, which made landfall on the Yemeni-Omani border on Sunday, 14 October. Two fatalities were reported in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Mahra, which has also experienced widespread flooding and infrastructural damage, amid fears of disease due to a chronic lack of supplies and aid. The other fatality was reported in the Omani governorate of Dhofar, which was reported as being less affected by the cyclone.

Due to the ongoing conflict, Yemen remains an extreme risk environment and as such members should reconsider all non-essential travel to the country at this time. Members should maintain a heightened level of situational awareness, review contingency plans, and heed any directives issued by authorities prior to travel. Any overland and air journeys which are undertaken in the country should be reviewed in advance to ensure that they have not been affected by the storm system.
