Update: Reports of IED Explosion in Kerch, Crimea

10/17/2018 (Ukraine) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 17 October, at least 13 people have been confirmed dead and over 70 injured after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at the Polytechnic College located at Verkhnya Street in the city of Kerch, in Russian occupied Crimea. Unconfirmed reports indicate that at least one gunman armed with an assault rifle as well as explosives set off the IED, after which he opened fire at students. Currently, dozens of policemen and heavily armed soldiers have positioned themselves outside the college and closed off the nearby street. Most of the students are thought to have been evacuated.

Those in Kerch should avoid the vicinity of the incident due to ongoing operations and the risk of further incidents. Members should monitor local media sources for further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
