Authorities Issue Severe Weather Alert due to Ongoing Thunderstorms

10/17/2018 (Qatar) - The Qatari Meteorological Department issued a severe weather alert on Wednesday, 17 October, due to ongoing thunderstorms in Doha, Messaid and northern areas of the country. The alert states that the affected areas are likely to be impacted by strong winds, causing rising dust and poor visibility. The alert is active from 17-22 October and mariners are advised to take caution, especially during afternoon and evening time when thunderstorms are likely to form.

Members in the affected areas are advised to pay close attention to local media sources for weather-related updates. Members should maintain a heightened level of situational awareness, review contingency plans and heed any directives issued by local authorities. Overland, sea and air journeys should be reviewed to ensure that they are not affected by the weather system.
