10/16/2018 (France) - At least 12 people have been killed by flash flooding in Aude department, following the equivalent of seven months' rain over the course of just a few hours early on Monday, 15 October. Several deaths occurred in the town of Trebes, with the villages of Conques-sur-Orbiel, Villegailhenc and Villardonnel particularly badly damaged. Around 350 firefighters were involved in the initial response, with that number set to double as others are drafted in to assist with ongoing search and rescue and clean-up operations. Thousands have been evacuated from the area following the floods.
