Clashes at Garment Factory Leave Dozens Injured in Yangon

10/16/2018 (Myanmar) - According to local media sources on Monday, 15 October, riot police were called to disperse a demonstration outside the Fu Yuen Garment factory in Yangon after it turned violent. Reportedly, 28 people were injured after they were attacked by "hired thugs", and the violence escalated with local people retaliating by throwing sticks and rocks at the factory. The police were called in to prevent further violence by dispersing the crowds.

Members are advised to avoid the vicinity of protests or any other large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence and a heavy-handed security response. Comply with official directives at all times and monitor local media sources for situational developments.
