Security Exercice to Be Held near Stade du 4 Aout in Ouagadougou on 16 October

10/16/2018 (Burkina Faso) - A security exercise will be held in the area of Stade du 4 Aout 1983 in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, 16 October. The Ministry of Security issued a notice stating that gunshots will be fired as part of the exercise, and call upon the Ouagadougou city dwellers not to panic. The purpose of the exercise is to simulate a terrorist attack. Last week, the US State Department issued an advisory indicating an increased likelihood of terrorist activity in Burkina Faso.
Travellers are in Ouagadougou are advised to exercise a heightened level of caution in light of the recent advisory and to be aware of increased security operations across the country. Due to the high threat of militancy and criminal activity, all travel outside of the capital should be subject to a thorough localised threat assessment and undertaken in coordination with a trusted security provider.
