10/16/2018 (Mexico) - Parts of Mexico will endure heavy rain and the risk of flash flooding and mudslides this week from newly formed Tropical Storm Tara, according to weather authorities on Tuesday, 16 October. Tara is the 19th tropical storm to develop in the East Pacific this season and could become the 12th hurricane of the season if further strengthening continues. Tara is expected to remain off the coast of western Mexico through Friday and will remain close enough to bring rain and thunderstorms across southern Michoacan, Colima, western Jalisco and southern Nayarit states. Rainfall amounts of 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) will be expected, with local areas expected to receive 200 mm (8 inches) or more. This amount of rainfall will be capable of producing life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides. Widespread travel disruptions are also expected.

Members should anticipate potential travel-related disruption and risks arising from heavy rains and possible flash floods. Monitor local news for updates on the situation and plan accordingly. Maintain extra vigilance when travelling on roads and heed any directives given by the authorities.
