06/23/2018 (Brazil) - On Friday, 22 June, hundreds of protesters marched in central Rio de Janeiro and other major urban centres demanding more liberal abortion legislation in the country. Demonstrators gathered in the vicinity of the Legislative Assembly building of Rio de Janeiro. Protests were inspired by neighbouring Argentina that decriminalised abortion in a parliament vote held recently.

Members are advised that similar gatherings in the past have been mostly peaceful, but often attract petty thefts and isolated incidents of violent crime. Members are advised to remain vigilant in the vicinity of large crowds due to the risk of exposure to potential violence and opportunistic crime. Alternative journey routes should be considered in order to circumvent the parade route, reducing the risk of potential travel delays.
