English Defence League Sympathisers to Rally in Leeds on 7 July

06/23/2018 (United Kingdom) - The English Defence League (EDL) political party called upon sympathisers for a rally in support of the jailed far-right activist and former EDL leader, Tommy Robinson, due to be staged in Leeds on Saturday, 7 July. The rally will be hold at 1400hrs (1300 UTC) outside of the Crown Court of Leeds and is likely to gather around 500 protesters. Security presence will be heightened in the vicinity of the event. The Stand Up To Racism and Unite Against Fascism activist groups plan to stage a counter-protest due to start at 1230hrs (1130 UTC) at the Leeds Art Gallery. Traffic disruption is due to be expected around at proximity of the events.

Members in Leeds are advised to avoid the vicinity of protests or any other large political gatherings in order to lessen the chances of being affected by incidental violence. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
